I spotted this “Say Yes to Local” sign at my local, East Village grocery store. My neighborhood has been inundated with venture capital-backed online grocery delivery services. These services hurt local stores like this one.

In her new book ‘Quit,' Annie Duke shares that the best poker players only play 25% of the hands they are dealt, whereas others play 50%. Ms. Duke talks with Stewart Butterfield, the founder of a few startups, most recently Slack (which is an acronym, which I didn’t know). Slack wouldn’t have been born if Mr. Butterfield didn’t drop a video game company to start Slack. Likewise for Twitter which was born out of the failed blogging company Odeo. Ms. Duke's lesson: winners ...

While thumbing through the Times, I noticed a smiling young woman’s picture in the obituaries. In the black and white photograph, she's standing on a fire escape with a historic building and a bridge in the distance. I was initially attracted to Ronni Solbert’s 1959 picture, yet I was even more drawn in by what I noticed next to her photo: a children&...

From Christmas presents to wedding presents, you can't go wrong with Waterford.
These are the items that I have used time and time again.
Waterford Water Pitcher- Great for refilling water glasses and also looks great on the bar with orange juice for mimosas!
Waterford Cake Plate. It is perfect for small cakes (I have to admit that I am not a baker, they are mostly from Publix) I have used it many times as a lift for a tablescape and also on my vanity to hold perfumes and lotions....

Grocery stores are increasingly turning to robots—some with cute paste on eyes—to replace humans. While the eyes are cute, what does this mean for employment for the low skilled?
One way that Amazon keeps prices low is not hiring low-skilled workers when it can replace them with robots.
We carry gourmet food you canโt find at the grocery store, like our delicious collection of Stonewall Kitchen jams and dips. The Bourbon Bacon jam would be perfect this weekend to celebrate the 145th Running for the Roses!

A friend of mine asked me about the buy local movement and young people. She wonders if young people (people under 40--gosh, I guess that excludes me?!) cared about the buy local 'movement.'
My response to her was that asking someone to buy local is sort of like asking someone to ignore the major principles of why people shop (aka ignore capitalism). The primary reasons we shop where we do is:
1. Selection. People want a wide variety of selectionโฆaka: all the items you can find on Amazon.

It's that time of year again - Easter; the time when peeps line the shelves of every grocery store and pharmacy. It's that time of the year when you think to yourself, "those are pretty darn cute but I've never liked peeps." The ONLY way to eat peeps, in my opinion, is to blow them up in the microwave until they look like jigglypuff and squish them between two graham cracker squares. Don't forget the chocolate! Seriously people, I could eat a whole box of peeps this way.
